AMA offering help at evacuation centres

Whether it’s individuals or businesses, Albertans have rallied behind the displaced residents of Fort McMurray.

The Alberta Motor Association, which provides auto and home owner’s insurance, in addition to roadside service has staff greeting Fort Mac residents at evacuation centres.

“The first thing we did was we got our insurance teams out to the evacuation centres, so that they could meet face to face with people who have been displaced by the fire,” Spokesperson Chris Rechner said. “We’re distributing emergency funds, starting claims. We’ve already had close to 2,000. Basically, trying to reassure people and make sure that they have the help they need as soon as they can get it.”

Rechner says their roadside assistance teams basically have been going 24/7 since the start of the disaster.

He says they’re delivering fuel; towing vehicles; and rescuing people.

It’s not about being an AMA member — the entire towing industry is pitching in to help.
