MP Scott Brison skirts around pipeline promises during speech to Calgary Chamber

Scott Brison was on the hot seat today as he looked to promote the Canadian budget to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.

Pipelines appeared to be the topic of choice as many, including the moderator, grilled him on the Prime Minister’s new social approach.

Brison says he’s confident progress towards market access can be made over time. The issue for many was how long can Alberta afford to wait?

As a minister and long-time politician, he says most of those he’s met in the energy sector are progressive.

He steered clear of commenting on whether Alberta can look forward to any additional support from Ottawa.

“Alberta’s been the engine of growth for Canada. For a long time, Alberta’s been here for Canada and our government’s here for Alberta and we recognise the importance of getting the economy growing again here in Alberta and across Canada,” said Brison. “I reflected on Mr. Harper’s failure in ten years to achieve market access to tidewater for Canadian energy.”

Brison adds, the prime minister wants tide water access, as long as it can be done responsibly.
