Fire crews respond to property for the second time in months

For the second time in a matter of months, a structure fire required crews to respond to a vacant property in Calgary’s southwest.

Flames could be seen shooting high into the sky just south of the community of Silverado around 6:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Battalion Chief Al Magwood said the fire department was on the property in December 2015.

“At that time they had a berm across the road to prevent vandalism, or whatever else,” explained Magwood. “That’s been removed; they also cut the grass back. So, they’ve complied with the requests made by the fire department.”

Magwood added the structure is believed to be an old farm outbuilding, and crews let it burn itself out while ensuring the fire did not extend to nearby fields.

He believes the property is owned by a developer looking to build homes in the area.
