Colborne’s Forces announces big benefit concert with Emerson Drive

Country music fans have something new to celebrate in the city, award winning Emerson Drive is putting on a concert to benefit members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Colborne’s Forces Benefit Concert is the brain-child of Calgary Flame Joe Colborne, who has shown continued support for the troops.

A portion of the money raised will go to benefit programs that help support the unique challenges they face, such as PTSD and counselling.

“I have so much respect for the military and our Armed Forces and what they do,” Colborne said. “There are so many good causes, especially in a city like this, that you can hold close to your heart but this one just — when you have these people that are not only sometimes dealt a bad hand but sacrificing for us and making it so I’m allowed to go out and play hockey, play a game and get paid for it and to feel safe when I wake up every day and go to bed every night. That’s something that I don’t take for granted.”

Colborne says he’s proud to call himself a Canadian and one of those reasons is that we have these soldiers who lay their lives on the line.

He’s purchased season tickets for members to attend every Flames’ home game and he personally meets them all afterwards.

“When they come down after the game and I get to meet them and you see them, huge smiles on their faces and they’re excited to get a chance to meet Gio, Mony and Johnny — they get a chance to come into our dressing room, they get a tour of the room and see what it’s like for us behind the scenes, to see the excitement on their faces and at times the emotions, the tears. When people go into the military, it’s not like they are going in and expecting fanfare for it and stuff like that and that’s kind of why I started Colborne’s Forces.”

The concert is at June 23, and tickets are available here.
