Montreal artist nominated for Juno “happy to be here”

More and more Canadian artists are flying into Calgary for the Junos, including R&B singer Patrick Lehman of Montreal.

His latest album, “Butchy’s Son,” has been nominated for best R&B Soul recording of the year.

Lehman told 660 NEWS, he was at home when he heard that he may be nominated from his publicist.

“The next day, I hopped in my car, I didn’t tell anybody where I was going, for fear of not being nominated I guess,” he said. “I went to Toronto, the press conference. To hear my name and the album title called – I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. But here I am in Calgary for the Junos. So, it’s real.”

This is his first time at the Junos, and he says he’s just happy to be in the city for them.

“Of course, I’m still working at my goals, I’m still trying to get up there, I’m against a couple big names. But honestly, to be nominated for the whole album, for one, especially in the soul category, for me that was my goal for the album, was to make it an R&B, soul-flavoured album,” he said. “To be in Calgary, at the Junos, I mean, I feel like I’ve already won it. As cliché as that sounds, just to be recognized by the Junos association, it’s just wild.”

He’ll be announcing dates for a Canada-wide tour next month, but he’ll be performing in Calgary ahead of the Junos, at Lolita’s in Inglewood, at 8 p.m. on Friday.
