The U of C is receiving a big gift, 50 years worth of Canadian music.

The University of Calgary is receiving a major musical donation.

Universal Music Canada has donated the archive of EMI Music Canada to the school, which includes files, recordings, records, footage and more from the past 50 years.

The material will be used by music students and staff for research, but it will also be open to the public.

Canadian rock legend Tom Cochrane was on hand for the presentation at the campus today, and told reporters, ” I’m just shocked there is so much material, I’m overwhelmed watching it and I find the memories just came flooding back, there are so many things you go through as a musician.”

It will take a few years to catalogue all 5,500 boxes of materials, but the work has already begun. For more information on how you can get your hand’s on some of the country’s music history visit the University’s web site.
