Four homes destroyed in Kincora blaze

Four homes have been destroyed after a massive fire in the northwest community of Kincora.

Acting Battalion Chief Fred Rogi says crews were called out to the 300 block of Kincora Drive just before 2:00 a.m. Tuesday.

“When they arrived, there were two houses that were fully involved, and they were dealing with high winds. It extended to the third house on that block and caused significant damage to all four houses,” he said.

The fire is out, but some residents are getting a look at their homes, two of which are reduced to rubble after the two alarm blaze.

Wendy’s brother, Mark, and her mother lived in one of the other houses, which was gutted; thankfully, her mother is out of town and her brother got out safe.

“I’m glad she was away, and I’m glad she’s not here to see it,” said Wendy.

Calgary Fire spokesperson Carol Henke said the fire was so large, that by the time crews arrived, they had to immediately take a defensive position; initially, there was some confusion about where people were.

“Now, we do have confirmation. We believe that everyone made it out of the home safely, and that really is the key,” said Henke.

There are a number of nearby parks with tall, dry grass, and Henke said it could have been a lot worse if the wind carried a spark or flames to one of those areas.

There were no injuries in the two alarm blaze, but the fire department is still looking for some residents who drove off before the flames were put out.
