Central Alberta dealing with freezing rain, poor road conditions

Those planning on travelling should keep the conditions in the rest of the province in mind.

According to Dan Kulak, Environment Canada meteorologist, there’s a trough extending from the Edson area into the northwest down through Brooks and Medicine Hat in the southeast.

“Along Highway 2, it’s a long stretch to go up there, and this weather system is going to be bringing some fog, and probably light snow and freezing rain potential for portions of Highway 2 well into the evening hours, especially in that Red Deer area,” Kulak said.

But there is relief in sight for those Calgarians feeling low due to the overcast conditions.

Kulak told 660 NEWS, the fog that enveloped the city should be moving on before Saturday.

“The fog in the Calgary area is being a little bit stubborn and persistent today,” Kulak said. “We’re thinking that it might not dissapate until the westerly winds kind of move in later on this evening. So it could be something that’s around the Calgary area for most of the afternoon and maybe into the supper hour.”
