Charges pending after SWAT team clears buildings at SAIT; suspect found with gun-shaped lighter

Calgary police say charges are pending after an incident on the SAIT campus Wednesday afternoon.

Around 12:00 p.m., students were forced outside of at least two buildings as officers moved in.

Police say a man had made threats against a school employee in the Heritage Hall building.

Early reports say that he may have had a weapon.

That’s when officers moved in, but gave the all-clear shortly after. The campus was not locked down.

Police say that a suspect was located at a home in Sandstone and was taken into custody without incident. He was found with a lighter shaped like a gun.

Officers continue to investigate and say charges are pending.
