Support being offered to first responders following deaths at WinSport

Responding to a scene such as the one at Canada Olympic Park on the weekend takes its toll on police officers, firefighters and paramedics.

Mike Lamore with the Calgary Police Association told 660 NEWS the service is once again giving peer support and psychological help to the workers involved.

“Policing is a tough job just to start with, let alone attending a scene like this (involving) young people, such a horrific scene,” he said. “It is tough to reconcile because of the tragedy that’s involved in this.”

“I mean, to receive the call initially, not even really knowing what you are going to, and showing up at the scene and seeing something like this, it is just horrible, absolutely horrible.”

Lamore also said the service extends its condolences to the Caldwell family.

660’s Ian Campbell sat down with Calgary Police Traffic Staff Sgt. Paul Stacey to speak about how his officers are dealing with the tragedy.
