29 people charged by CPS after drug trafficking raids in the downtown core

One hundred and twenty eight drug charges have been laid against 29 people after two major operations by the Calgary Police Service.

Seven people were arrested in December after officers noticed significant drug activity on 17 Avenue near a number of family restaurants.

In January, police targeted 7 Avenue southwest near Olympic Plaza and the Calgary Public Library.

Calgary Police Inspector Cliff O’Brien told 660 NEWS, they may have made 29 arrests, but keeping them off the streets is an ongoing battle.

“Out of those 29 people, 13 have already been released. Now, they have been released with conditions, and one of the things that we will do with out beat and bike units in particular, is we will monitor those offenders to make sure they are complying with their conditions,” said O’Brien.

Investigators said the most commonly seized drug was crystal meth, followed by morphine.

Fentanyl was only seized once in more than 30 arrests.
