“Shingle Shack” up for grabs

Interest is growing in a free house in Inglewood.

A family wants to give it away to whoever wants it, if that person is willing to pay to move it off the family property on 14A St and St. Monica Ave S.E.

Kathy Brown told 660 NEWS, her family has outgrown the more than 100-year-old bungalow she affectionately calls the “Shingle Shack.”

“It’s not big enough for our growing family at this point,” she said. “We’re hoping to pass it on to another family, and maybe they can use it.”

Before local newspaper Metro wrote a story on the home, Brown only had interest from one couple in a nearby community. But since the story ran, two more families have come forward.

Brown said when her family builds its new house, they’ll be keeping with the historic feel of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood.
