The invisible toll of stress

Women are five times more likely to die of a heart attack than breast cancer, and men are ten times more likely to succumb to a heart attack than prostate cancer.

That’s why a heart specialist is urging people to think about the impact stress is having on their health.

Dr. Stephen Valentine is with RCA Diagnostics in Calgary.

“Whether your blood pressure is normal or whether it’s dramatically elevated you may be feeling the same, but the stress on your heart and the damage that that elevated blood pressure is doing to your heart, and to your body can be dramatic,” he explained.

Dr. Valentine is urging people to get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked by their family doctor.
