Quadrapalegic man identified as victim of police shooting

We’re learning more about the suspected shooter, who was shot and killed by police in his Huntington Hills home Sunday afternoon.
The 53-year-old has been identified as David McQueen.
More than a dozen officers were called to 78 Ave. NW, telling neighbours to stay in their basements as they responded to reports of a man shooting at random from his home.
Police say the situation escalted when the man left the home and officers were forced to shoot him.
On McQueen’s Facebook page, he mentions his upbringing in Windsor, Ontario, and posts show him reminiscing about his minor league days as a recognized pitcher.
That was before he dove into Sikome Lake in 1994, and suffered a spinal cord injury that left him in a wheelchair. McQueen identifies himself as a quadrapalegic, frustrated with the health care system.
In several posts, he describes his experience going through Calgary’s health facilities, with accusations of neglect and poor medical care, along with his disdain for local police and politicians.
In one post, he expresses concerns that his computer may be monitored by law enforcement officials. In others, McQueen writes about being a business owner selling fresh flowers downtown, and raising two children. He also recently mourned the death of his beloved dog.
Meanwhile, some of his neighbours are still shaken, knowing bullets were flying so close to home.
“Two, then a pause, then another three after that. Three of them. Then, it stopped and then I heard, like in a movie, a shotgun (like sound),” said one neighbour.
Multiple bullet holes can be seen in McQueen’s front window.
Bernie told 660 NEWS about what happened.
“Everything quieted down, and I was just looking through the window, and cops were running back and forth and it looked like they were chasing someone.”
ASIRT has updated its invetigation into the shooting, but will not comment until it is complete.
It says that shortly after 6:00 p.m., a man exited the rear of the residence armed with a handgun and engaged in a direct confrontation with police.
He was declared dead on scene and the handgun was recovered.
According to ASIRT, the victim was known to police.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 26.
