Calgary mayor encouraged by meetings in Switzerland

Calgary’s mayor says our country has made strides at the World Economic Forum.

Naheed Nenshi said there was a buzz about Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that he’s never seen before.

He said the ‘re-branding of the energy sector’ seems to be going well, while also downplaying any tiff some thought he had with Trudeau’s big speech.

He said that he would’ve only added a word or two.

“I didn’t expect him to be making major policy statements in Switzerland, he should be doing that at home in Canada,” Nenshi explained. “I hope that he will continue to do that.”

“I hope that we will hear more respects for the National Energy Board process on Energy East, for example, it was a very good opportunity to be out there on an international stage talking about Alberta.”

Nenshi added that an annual event focusing on investment in Canada, the room was packed this year with hundreds of people.

“The conversation that we heard about Canada was very much a conversation around opportunities going forward,” he said.

Nenshi said one of the factors interesting investors was the fact that Canada is making real steps on pricing carbon.
