Stampeders QB recognized for extensive community work

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is the winner of the Calgary Stampeders’ Herm Harrison Memorial Award.

The annual distinction honours a Stamps player who dedicates himself to community service and charitable organizations across the city.

“It’s truly an honour to receive this prestigious award,” Mitchell explained.

“It’s one thing for a player to receive an award for on-field accomplishments but so much more meaningful to be recognized for our work off the field in the community, where we should be spending our time because we have the platform to do so.”

The 25-year-old pivot from Katy, Texas is part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area, Vecova, along with two programs he launched on his own, Bo’s Quarterback Club and Mitchell’s Miracle Day.

He credits his wife Madi for getting him so involved.

“She’s a very good person,” he told our sister station Sportsnet 960 The Fan. “She’s always kept a good head on my shoulders and made sure that I’ve always stepped up there in the community. She’s a very big part of that.”

Although he and Madi are from Texas, they both feel a special connection with Calgary.

“We want to make Calgary our home,” Mitchell said. “In order to do that, you have to be able to help your community and your home out. That’s our motto.”
