Albertans gather to remember late MLA Manmeet Bhullar

Albertans will be gathering at the Jubilee Auditorium to remember an MLA killed doing what he loved: helping others.

Viewing at the state memorial for Calgary-Greeway MLA Manmeet Bhullar begins at 9, with the service beginning at noon.

Members of the legislature, local politicians and Albertans across the province began mourning days ago.

Monday we learned Bhullar had been killed in a traffic incident on the QEII.

The politician had got out of his car on the highway to help a stranded driver, when he was hit by a semi that lost control in slippery conditions.

Bhullar was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Alberta flag was draped over the PC’s desk in the legislature this week.

Many of his colleagues, including former premiers and our own Mayor Naheed Nenshi are recalling fond memories of the public servant, calling him “a true warrior of fairness and justice” and a big man with a giant heart.
