Calgary Stampede teams up with AltaLink for a focus on youth safety on the farm

A new partnership was celebrated on Stampede Park Thursday.

There’s been a major donation by Alberta’s largest electricity provider, aiming to support farm-families and rural youth.

A $1.5 million contribution from AltaLink creates the 20,000 square foot AltaLink hall within the Agrium Centre.

Stampede CEO Warren Connell said with the current economy, the Stampede faces some challenges in delivering quality programming, making this announcement especially significant.

“It allows both of our organizations to come together and create an inspired space filled with active learning and events that celebrate Alberta’s rurally communities, youth in agriculture, our western heritage, and of course safety,” Connell said.

AltaLink CEO Scott Thon said recent tragedies on the farm underscore the importance of education and awareness.

“I can’t think of a better forum for spreading this message, than through the Calgary Stampede,” Thon said. “We’re very proud to be a partner with an organization that shares this vision of a safer farm community and about developing youth in rural Alberta.”

AltaLink Hall is a multipurpose space, offering agriculture learning to young people year-round.

AltaLink will also support Farm Safety Day, a new annual event for rural students.

The first will be in March of next year.
