Snow continues to hamper driving in parts of Central Alberta

Wintery weather continues to cause issues in parts of Central Alberta with a snowfall warning still out for many areas to the north including Red Deer.

The QE II is one of the hardest hit highways with poor conditions reported starting near Didsbury.

RCMP Inspector Gibson Glavin tells 660 NEWS, there were a number of crashes Monday between Ponoka and Didsbury with a significant number of vehicles involved.

Mounties say they’ve responded to at least eight separate collisions as the QE II from Red Deer to Ponoka was in very bad shape with snow and ice covering the highway.

A tow ban remains in effect between Red Deer and Ponoka, meaning if you hit the ditch, you won’t be getting out until the ban is lifted.

A snowfall warning has also been issued for Cardston, Fort Macleod, Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek and Waterton areas with 10 to 15 cms expected by Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, from Red Deer north to the Edmonton area, you can expect between 10 and 20 cms.

The city of Calgary is mostly being spared the brunt of the storm with about 5 cms expected Tuesday and things expected to clear out late in the evening.
