Panel on youth mental health screens movie this weekend

A movie about a teen’s battle with mental health will be part of a panel discussion coming up this weekend.

‘To Write Love On Her Arms’ starring Kat Dennings will be screened at the Plaza Theatre.

A group of volunteers trying to improve the way we view and treat youth mental health organized the session, which will include young people who’ve had their own battles with it and who can talk about how they dealt with it.

Spokesperson Dianne Quan says it’s a chance for youth to hear first hand from their peers and get some advice from experts.

“We have a young girl coming on the panel who’s been through some of these issues herself and she’s come out the other side. We have somebody who’s a healthcare worker at the Alex, a front-line worker, and we have a young woman who was on the street and was an addict who is now doing her PhD and looking at some of the systemic barriers to do with youth mental health,” says Quan.

The panel discussion and movie will be held Saturday, November 28th at 1 p.m.
