Airdrie mayor ticked off over termination of long time doctor

The mayor of Airdrie is incensed with Alberta Health Services.

Peter Brown is speaking out after AHS terminated the contract of the long time medical director of the urgent care centre in the community north of Calgary.

He told 660 NEWS that it’s another example of bureaucrats not listening to the people most impacted.

“Not understanding that they’re moving forward without talking to us first. This is a huge blow. You should see the feedback on social media and the support that Dr. (Julian) Kyne has from the community,” Brown said.

He added that Dr. Julian Kyne has been well know in the Airdrie area for 30 years and earned a lot of respect in the eight years he’s advocated for the urgent care centre.

AHS issued a brief statement only saying that the medical director’s contracted ended this month and they will start the process of looking for a replacement soon.

Full statement:

We are committed to strong urgent and primary care services to support patients and families in Airdrie and the surrounding communities.

The Airdrie Urgent Care Centre continues to be an important health care service in Airdrie. A search and selection process to find a permanent candidate to fill the important role of medical director will commence in the coming weeks.

The current Airdrie urgent care medical director’s contract ends in November 2015.

This is an issue between an employer and a contractor. As such, AHS will not speak to the circumstances of the medical director’s departure.

AHS thanks all Airdrie Urgent Care staff for their ongoing commitment to patient care.
