Canada Post halts community mailbox program

It appears Canada Post is just waiting on the Liberals to tell it to stop installing community mailboxes.
The Crown Corporation announced it’s temporarily suspending the program which replaces door-to-door delivery with the new mailboxes.
In a statement, it says the corporation is putting the program on hold, and this involves about 460,000 addresses across the country which are currently in the process to be converted to community mailboxes.
“As a result, all conversions planned for November and December 2015 and those announced for 2016 will be placed on hold. Customers impacted by this decision will receive a letter within the next few weeks advising them of the status of their mail delivery service,” states Canada Post.
With more of the boxes being erected across major Canadian cities, Canadian Union of Postal Workers national president Mike Palecek says all it would take is a phone call.
“We’ve been told by Canada Post management, that’s the only thing they’re waiting for,” says Palecek.
Prime Minister designate Justin Trudeau and his Liberals pledged to scrap the move during the election campaign. The party formally takes office next week and hasn’t contacted Canada Post, but the Crown agency says it looks forward to a discussion about its future plans.
