BBB warns about social media hazards

You could be leaving yourself open to fraudsters when you go on Facebook or Twitter.

The Better Business Bureau is warning social media users to use caution.

First off, don’t post too much information, especially pictures or updates when you are on vacation — that’s just like leaving the door unlocked.

Leah Brownridge tells 660 NEWS, another no-no is third party applications.

“This is when you come across a video or an article that you want to read or view, and you’ll be prompted to download a third party app in order to view that content,” she explained. “But really what it does is it gives the owner of that app access to your account and its information.”

Another thing to watch for is a friend request from someone who is already a friend.

It’s likely just someone trying to access your account to get personal information.
