Police update two long weekend deaths; one now deemed a homicide

Investigators say one of two deaths in the city over the long weekend is now believed to be a homicide, the 24th of the year in Calgary.

At about 5:30 Sunday afternoon, police were called to a home in Ranchlands and found a woman dead.

Police say there was a party at that home Saturday night and they want to speak with anyone who attended, and are also probing a nearby car prowling early Sunday morning that could be connected.

The victim has been identified by family as 26-year-old Christa Cachene.

The other weekend death in the Beltline is still being termed a suspicious death as an autopsy has been pushed back until Wednesday.

Late Sunday night, a man’s body was found in an alley around 7th Street and 12th Avenue S.W., behind the Safeway.

They said his bag had been stolen after some sort of altercation and believe drugs might be involved.
