One dead, another seriously hurt in Thanksgiving Sunday incidents

It’s been a busy weekend for police after two incidents in the city.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Ranchlands Bay northwest for a check on welfare Sunday afternoon, when they arrived on scene it quickly turned into a suspicious death investigation, with the Homicide Unit taking over.

Detective Andy Ngyen said investigators are taking their time piecing together exactly what happened and they’re interviewing a number of people.

“At this point it is important to figure out exactly what transpired and then based on that, it gives a good direction to where this investigation is going to go” Ngyen said.

Police are expected to release more information, including details about the victim, later in the day, Monday.

The Homicide Unit is also investigating another violent incident that occurred in the Beltline Sunday night.

A man is in hospital with severe injuries after an altercation in an alley on 7th Street and 12th Avenue southwest that happened around 11:00 p.m. Sunday night

“He was severally injured, he was assaulted of course, but the number of suspects at the moment is to be determined” Ngyen said.

He adds anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.
