Calgary church walks for refugees

It’s a symbol of solidarity, taking a walk just like millions of refugees fleeing on foot from conflict areas to seek asylum.

Hillhurst United Church is hosting the Walk to Support Refugees, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Reverend Dr. Danielle James said there’s no better day for the event than on Thanksgiving.

“Even on the eve of election, when we are very aware of the privileges of democracy we have here, the safety we have here, to be able to say we are in solidarity with those who walk daily in order to seek new horizons of hope and safety,” James said.

There are walks of six, 14 and 17 kilometres walks on the Bow River pathways.

Walkers are meeting on the south side of the Peace Bridge at 9:45 a.m. Monday.
