Local shop bringing the taste of France to Calgarian kitchens

The french macaron: two meringue-based cookies filled with a creamy ganache.

It’s a dessert that’s loved by many, but one that’s not easy to make.

That’s why Mon Plaisir, a French delicacy shop in Calgary, is offering classes on how to make the treat.

Jean-Marc Mons, the CEO and co-founder of the shop, told 660 NEWS, their pastry chef is from France, and will show people the best techniques for delicious macarons, every time.

“There is no magical recipe behind it. It’s just steps you have to follow, and a certain discipline,” Mons said. “The idea of offering these classes is to help people interested in baking these cookies is to master each and every step that will allow them to get more consistent results.”

Mons added, the filling is the easy part.

“It’s the cookie that is quite complicated to achieve each and every time, and make it right each and every time.”

The classes run from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. every other Saturday at the shop’s northeast factory.

And for those who are only interested in tasting the treats?

“Well, if they want to eat them, they can get down to our downtown store location, which is in TD Square. They can also go online. We have a link on our website that links to our online store, and they have all the details on the website, they can order it online and get it delivered home.”
