Shelters asking Calgary to remember those in need this Thanksgiving

Some of the city’s less fortunate will receive special Thanksgiving dinners this weekend.

The YWCA hosts at least 200 women each night in their 18 programs, and Spokesperson Carla Link says some of their guests will be digging in this weekend.

“Particularly at our shelter where there is a full kitchen, and we do cook meals for the women and children who are staying in our emergency shelter. There is a turkey dinner that happens. Here, at the transitional housing shelter downtown, women have kitchens where they can cook their own meals, so we don’t have a specific meal service,” she said.

Link is asking Calgarians to remember the less fortunate this weekend and make a donation if they can.

The Calgary Drop-In Centre is also holding its annual Alfred Balm Day of Thanksgiving on Monday, where homeless Calgarians will get a new pair of cozy socks along with a turkey dinner.
