Man in hospital after 15th Avenue hit and run

Police spent a number of hours blocking off 15th Avenue SW between 2nd and 4th Streets after a Thursday morning hit and run.

Acting Sergeant Dave Dentdant said it happened at around 9:30 a.m.

“There was a group of pedestrians walking westbound on the south sidewalk of 15th Avenue approaching 4th Street SW,” he explained. “A grey or black sedan was driving eastbound and swerved toward the group of pedestrians, striking one of them and then fled the scene.”

The victim, a man in his 20s, is in Foothills Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in critical condition.

Witnesses reported seeing a verbal altercation take place between the occupants of the vehicle and a group of men walking down the street. It is believed that following the altercation, a dark-coloured sedan returned and struck the victim before fleeing the scene.
