Calgary celebrates start of NHL season

A big party gets underway Wednesday afternoon in honour of the start of the 2015/16 NHL season.

NHL Face-Off 2015 takes place at Fort Calgary starting at 3 p.m. and running through the end of the Flames/Canucks game, with all the action being shown on a giant outdoor video screen.

Host of the event, City’s Jill Belland says there’s plenty to take in.

“Between three and eight o’clock, until they show the game, there will be lots of things to do. They also have music, so, it’s a music and hockey festival.” Belland said.

Bands playing include Fitz and the Tantrums at 7:20 p.m. followed by Reuben and the Dark, and Jocelyn Alice during intermissions.

Some tips for those heading to the event: security screens will take place at the doors and any bags larger than 12 inches long will not be permitted.

There will be very limited parking, so attendees are encouraged to take public transit.
