Calgary Police Commission appoints Roger Chaffin as new police chief

Calgary has a new police chief.

The Calgary Police Commission announced today that Roger Chaffin will take over as top policeman in the city.

Chaffin joined the force in 1986 and was deputy chief responsible for bureau of organizational support before his appointment.

He also worked in the professional standards section and as duty inspector.

Former chief Rick Hanson left earlier this year to run for the Progressive Conservatives in the provincial election, but lost to the NDP.

Chaffin was appointed to the Order of Merit for police forces, one of the country’s most important honours.
