Did you get a flu shot last year?

We’re heading into flu season.

The province will roll out its free flu shot program October 20th and has already released the list of clinics where Albertans will be able to get one.

A recent survey found nearly half of Canadians who did not get a shot last year cited a lack of confidence that it would actually be effective.

AHS Medical Officer of Health Dr. Judy MacDonald tells 660 NEWS, getting no shot means zero protection so if you do get one at least you have a chance of making a difference. It could actually be a big difference.

“If there is a mismatch… on one strain, well, you know we hardly ever only see one strain, we can see several coming. So you know you could be protected against those other strains and you might even get some level of protection against the one that maybe isn’t as well matched as we’d like it to be,” says MacDonald.

The vaccine will offer protection against four strains of the virus which they just started doing last year.
