Encore presentation for closing of Calgary Film Fest

“Guantanamo’s Child” was a popular pick at the box office for the Calgary International Film Festival, and if movie goers missed it there’s a chance to catch the documentary again.

The film features Omar Khadr, a former Guantanamo Bay prisoner trying to reintigrate into society in Edmonton. Film Fest Executive Director Steve Schroeder explains how it’s an intriguing look at Canadian values.

“Balancing the concerns of terrorism and security with also how we treat people in terms of due legal process and the balance in how far we’re willing to go to keep people safe, and what we need to do to also ensure fairness, liberty and justice,” he says.

There’s also “Landfillharmonic” about garbage that was recycled to make enough instruments for kids in Paraguay to form an orchestra that tours the world.

Three other films picked by audiences are also playing an encore for the final day of the festival on Sunday. Schroeder says attendance at the festival is up significantly from the 29,000 who attended last year.
