Police warn of fentanyl “public health crisis”

Calgary Police are warning the threat of fentanyl isn’t fading.

In fact, it appears to be getting worse.

Speaking to the police commission, Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta says there have been 16 overdoses in the past two weeks, two deadly.

That’s on top of 145 people who have died from the potent drug in the province in the first half of the year — 45 of those in this city.

He says just focusing on arresting those using and selling fentanyl will not completely solve the problem, they need to educate people about the dangers, especially youth.
