Flames Foundation unveils renovated outdoor rink in Queensland

Queensland residents got a special treat Wednesday as upgrades to an outdoor rink in the southeast community were unveiled.

The Calgary Flames Foundation worked together with WorleyParsonsCord to modernize the rink, including the installation of a new concrete curb, an equipment ramp, a dasher board system and chain-link fencing.

Candice Goudie with the Flames Foundation says the facility was in dire need of repairs.

“It was in pretty rough shape and it’s a community that really, really appreciates it as an asset for the people that live here and we’re really happy to be able to do that,” said Goudie.

Queensland resident Tawnya Dorans said she’s impressed with the improvements and excited for her little ones to put the new rink to use.

“The kids love hockey. My boys love hockey. This is amazing for them, to be able to do this. They can do it spring, summer, and winter. It’s awesome,” said Dorans.

The Flames Foundation has contributed towards the renovations of some other rinks in the communities of Dover, Whitehorn, and Cranston.

Officials say the rink will be fully operational as soon as the weather co-operates.
