Ban on selling menthol tobacco comes into effect

Smokers who want the minty taste of menthol with every puff will have to get their supply elsewhere.

Starting Thursday, the province’s ban on selling menthol tobacco comes into effect.

The NDP government announced the ban in May 2015, and gave retailers until the end of September to get rid of their stock.

During the announcement, Health Minister Sarah Hoffman argued the ban will make smoking less attractive to youth, as one-third of all youth in the province smoking menthol cigarettes.

The NDP had previously criticized the former PC government, for not including menthol in a ban against selling flavoured tobacco products.
