Group concerned about commercial projects in Banff and Jasper

A group with concerns about the future of our national parks is hoping to shine a light on development issues during the Federal election campaign.

The group known as FightForYourParks is concerned about the privatization of public spaces and commercial projects in Banff and Jasper National Parks.

Those projects include the expansion of the Lake Louise ski hill.

In a news release, Kevin Van Tighem, who retired as the superintendent at Banff National Park in 2011, says they surveyed 1,000 Canadians in developing a management plan in 2010.

He says, “None of them called for more commercial development and a lot of them expressed concern about there being too much.”

FightForYourParks includes a wide range of people from individuals and business owners to environmental groups, First Nations and former Parks Canada staff.
