NDP to announce further protection for Castle wilderness area

The NDP government is rolling out funding to enhance protection of a significant area of wilderness in the Rocky Mountains.

Environmentalists have been lobbying for decades to make the Castle area its own provincial park.

Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks is making the announcement Friday morning south of Calgary in Blairmore.

It’s a follow-up to a campaign pledge by the governing party.

In a news release, the province calls the Castle area a “key wildlife corridor” and “one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the province.”
