Labour Day weekend campers should be aware of wildlife warnings and closures

Bring an umbrella and watch out for wildlife: those are probably the two most important tips for people planning a camping trip in the west country this long weekend.

There are still a lot of campsites available, but a few warnings to look out for.

Lac des Arcs is closed due to bear activity, there’s a cougar advisory at Etherington Creek, and part of the Ghost Public Land Use Zone is off limits, although the Burnt Timber Campground is open.

Jill Sawyer with Alberta Parks tells 660 NEWS where people can find an open spot.

“If anybody is looking to come out to the Kananaskis region here this weekend, we will be updating our campground availability notices on AlbertaParks.ca,” she said.

She says for many it will be the last weekend of camping for the year.

The forecast is calling for chilly, wet weather to start the long weekend, but it should improve Sunday and Monday.
