National Music Centre August construction update

Progress continues at a very steady pace when it comes to the construction of the new National Music Centre at the gateway to the East Village downtown.

We’re learning each ”exterior” terracotta tile changes colour as light shines on it, giving the impression the building is always moving and symbolizes the palette and flavours of the different kinds of music that will occur inside.

President and CEO Andrew Mosker tells 660 NEWS, the building also features an incredible amount of ”interior” detail, including feature stairs that have been installed on the north and south side.

“When you get to a platform, before you go up to the next level and you look out inside the building, you see a different view of the space and the incredible amount of detail that our architect has designed for our visitors and it’s just so exciting to see, so the walls are being framed and are almost finished now and you can really see what the forms of the building look like,” he said.

Mosker adds the massive skylights on the roof are now being filled with glass and the individual spaces change, as the light moves across the sky.

The organization also continues to prepare for their next Out Loud Gala fundraiser featuring Serena Ryder coming up Saturday, September 26th on the River Walk.

Tickets are still available and for more details, log onto nmc.ca.

The National Music Centre, located on 9th Avenue and 4th Street, S.E. is set to open in late spring 2016.
