Charges filed in two of Calgary’s latest murders

A Calgary man is facing a murder charge following the discovery of a body in the community of Pineridge, earlier this week.

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit was called in after officers were responded to a ‘check on welfare’ complaint at a home in the 400 block of Pinehill Rd. NE, Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. A woman was found dead within the home.

Police identify the victim as Chelsea Serpentini-Harty, 24. Her name was released following an autopsy on Wednesday, August 26th.

It is the city’s 17th homicide of the year.

Jonathan Edward Martin, 26, is now charged with first-degree murder in the case. It’s believed the two were in a relationship and living together at the home where Seprentini-Harty’s body was found.

Martin attended his first court appearance Thursday, August 27th.

In other police business, cops have also laid charges in a shooting death from earlier in the week.

A young Calgary man has been charged with second-degree murder following a police investigation into the shooting in the city’s northeast, Saturday evening.

Around 9:00 p.m., officers responded to the 7000 block of California Blvd NE to find a man injured on a driveway.

The victim, David Quach, 27, was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police made an arrest Tuesday, but have now formally charged Said Raed Abdulbaki, 20, with the homicide. He appeared in court Thursday, August 27th.
