Justin Trudeau says some people in Ottawa could learn from the example of a now former Liberal candidate who resigned over controversial remarks she made online.
Ala Buzreba stepped down as a candidate in Calgary Nosehill after comments she made years ago, as a teenager, surfaced on Twitter, apparently having been dug up by Conservative supporters.
Speaking in Winnipeg Wednesday, Trudeau applauded Buzreba for taking responsibility for her mistakes.
“That kind of personal responsibility is actually a lesson that there’s a number folks in Ottawa that pay close attention to,” Trudeau said.
The controversial remarks include Buzreba implying that the mother of a strident defender of Israel should have had an abortion.
Buzreba says the tweets “reflect a much younger person,” and she’s learned a lot about social media since posting them.
