PAMPLONA, Spain – Spain’s Red Cross says one person was gored and six others injured as thousands of daredevils tested their bravery and speed by dashing alongside fighting bulls through the streets of this northern Spanish city on the first bull-run of Pamplona’s San Fermin festival.
Spokesman Jose Aldaba said seven people were taken to a city hospital for injuries suffered in the 8.a.m. run Tuesday. One was gored in the armpit.
There were no immediate details on their identities.
The run sees people dashing with six bulls along a narrow 930-yard (850-meter) course from a holding pen to the city bull ring.
It lasted just over two minutes.
The nine-day fiesta was made world famous in Ernest Hemingway’s 1926 novel “The Sun Also Rises” and attracts thousands of foreign tourists.
