Ric McIver rolls up sleeves for Stampede

While Rachel Notley flipped pancakes at the high-profile Premier’s breakfast, the leader of the province’s PC Party was getting down and dirty as a batter beater with the Stampede Caravan.

Calgary-Hays MLA Ric McIver has been volunteering at the North Hill pancake breakfast for a decade.

“I do it because I want to have fun and contribute to the Stampede, because it’s such an amazing tradition for the city that I love,” McIver said.

“This year, I’m a batter beater, mixing the pancake batter. As you can see, for the later part of the breakfast, I’m doing dishes. Yes, for your listeners, I’m doing dishes.”

He added that it’s incredible to see so many people involved in the event.

“It’s nothing but fun,” he explained. “When you get people who will get up at 5 o’clock in the morning and there’s about a 150 on our committee to make sure everyone else has a good Stampede, you know you’re dealing with good, fun people.”
