PanAm torch burns at Stampede

The PanAm Torch Relay comes to Calgary Friday for the first day of Stampede.

Marnie Krell, with Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, tells 660News Calgary is only one of five locations outside Ontario to host the 41 day tour leading up to the start of the games in Toronto July 10.

“Luckily, they wanted to host it here and they were also coming to be a part of the Stampede parade,” she said.

Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Michelle Cameron-Coulter and a grade 10 student from the National Sports School at Winsport will carry the torch to the Hall of Fame Friday afternoon.

Several others will be in the parade including Olympic Gold Medalists Kyle Shewfelt and Carol Huynh.
