Online brokerage Zoocasa resurrected less than two weeks after shutdown

TORONTO – Online brokerage Zoocasa is back, resurrected by a group of investors less than two weeks after being shut down by Rogers Communications (TSX:RCI.B).

According to a statement issued Thursday, the site will retain the same home search technology and tools as before.

It is being headed by Lauren Haw, a Toronto real estate broker who currently leads a team of agents at Scholarhood.ca, which she launched in 2013.

Scholarhood helps families find homes in the most desirable school districts in the Greater Toronto Area.

Zoocasa, which was shuttered on June 22, used to send out a popular daily newsletter via email that provided the prices of recently sold homes in a bid to attract more traffic to its website.

But the company stopped sending the emails earlier this year after the Toronto Real Estate Board warned all of its members that those who break the rules about sharing sold data could lose their access to the Multiple Listing Service.

It was unclear what changes, if any, are planned by the new team at Zoocasa, which Haw described as “an important Canadian asset, backed by unique technology and a brand that’s recognized by millions of Canadians.”

“Our mission is to give homebuyers access to the best possible real estate tools and information while providing a premium level of in-house customer service — and that means building a team of professionals who can adapt to changing consumer expectations,” she said.
