EMS reminds Stampede-goers of safety during 10-day show

With beautiful weather in the forecast, and hundreds of thousands expected to whoop it up over the next 10 days, emergency officials have issued a general safety message.

Naomi Nania with EMS is urging people to slap on the sunscreen and to hydrate before heading out, especially when drinking alcohol.

“Drinking alcoholic beverages foes dehydrate you, so we know that people are going to enjoy the Stampede sometimes more than others, so we want to make sure those people are staying hydrated with non-alcoholic drinks as well,” she said.

Police will not only be stepping up patrols at Stampede Park, but checkstops as well.

People are also being told to use taxi stands when in search of a ride instead of trying to flag one down on the street.

The City of Calgary’s Public Safety Communications Commanders Richard Hinse is also urging Calgarians to be mindful of accidental 911 calls, which averaged 300 a day last year.

“We encourage all citizens and visitors to have fun over the next 10 days, please stay safe and don’t hesitate to call 911 if you need us,” he said.
