Natural wonders win out in new survey of “best places” in province

It’s looking like some of Alberta’s natural wonders win out when it comes to a new survey from Insights West on some of the “best places” to visit in the province.

Insights West approached 451 leisure travellers and provided a list of 69 destinations, attractions and landmarks and asked them to come up with the seven best in “best places” in the province.

Hands down Banff National Park came out on top as the first choice with 72 per cent.

Other “musts” to make the top ten included:

Jasper National Park (46%)
Calgary Zoo (38%)
Lake Louise (33%)
Royal Tyrell Museum (27%)
Calgary Stampede (27%)
Dinosaur Provincial Park (25%)
West Edmonton Mall (24%)
Wiarton Lakes National Park (21%)
Columbia Ice Field (20%)

Insights West also found some interesting differences between age groups.

Alberta leisure travellers aged 35 to 54 were more likely to vote for Banff National Park than those aged 55 and older.

Younger leisure travellers between the ages of 18 to 34 were more likely to vote for the Calgary Stampede at 37 per cent.

“Keep in mind this is a survey among all Albertans, and it looks like there are more natural wonders or the natural beauties that are the best places to visit in Alberta where as the Calgary Stampede is a 10 day festival,” said Vice-President Jane Ha-Trapp.

Other destinations that made the list include Kananaskis Provincial Park, Drumheller, Icefields Parkway, Canmore and the Calgary Heritage Park

The survey found 70 per cent of Albertans are planning on making at least one leisure trip within the province over the next 12 months.
