Calgary misses heat record by 100 km

It was hot in Calgary Saturday but the city has been getting off easy compared to the extreme weather in much of western Canada.

Manitoba is dealing with the aftermath of tennis ball-sized hail, some northern Albert fires are burning strong and BC is suffering through even more intense heat.

Still seven temperature records were broken across Alberta this weekend, including just over 100 kilometres west of Calgary,

According to Environment Canada Banff and Canmore passed their former record of 29.8 degrees to hit 31.9 on Saturday.

On tallies are counted for Sunday, Calgary could hit a record with a forecast of 32 degrees, less than a degree below the current record.

Ron Mark, a meteorologist with Environment Canada told 660News the dry weather right now makes the heat feel worse than it is and rainfall is well below seasonal norms.

He said, there may be few more clouds and a chance of rain heading into Tuesday but Canada Day and the rest of the week should once again reach high temperatures.
