Flames acquire blueliner Dougie Hamilton

A big splash by the Calgary Flames ahead of the 2015 NHL Draft.

They’ve acquired defenceman Dougie Hamilton from Boston in exchange for Calgary’s 2015 first round pick (15th overall) and two second round picks (45th overall and 52nd overall – previously acquired from the Washington Capitals).

Hamilton, a native of Toronto, Ontario, was originally drafted in the first round (9th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft by Boston.

In 2014-15, the 22-year-old led all Bruins blueliners with 42 points (10G, 32A) in 72 games.

On the international stage, Hamilton represented Canada at the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and won the bronze medal.
